Weekend Warrior

Weekend Warrior is a 3-day adventure designed for groups and teams who desire to spend a life-impacting weekend learning and growing in the challenges of team work, servanthood, evangelism and inner-city outreach.

Weekend Warrior is an ideal chance for people to submerge themselves in the eye-opening and growth-promoting world or inner-city ministry where individuals participate in an intensive 42 hours of loving and serving people in downtown Portland, OR.

Cost: $120.00 per participant

This cost includes: food, shower fees, administration fees, staff, t-shirt, ministry materials, housing, training materials.

Prayer Requests

Pray SUNDAYS for: Christian adults to be burdened for the salvation of the next generation. Strong foundations of prayer in each tour community.
Pray MONDAYS that: God will transform thousands of lives through this year’s tour. An army of Christians will be equipped to share their faith through the adult Christian Life & Witness Course and the student FM419 training.
Pray TUESDAYS for: Unity among Christians as we reach and teach the next generation to live for Jesus. Committed leaders and workers, sufficient financial support, and the many venue and logistical needs.
Pray WEDNESDAYS that: The next generation will see their true value in God’s eyes and hunger to know Him better. The next generation would become witnesses for Christ in their worlds.
Pray THURSDAYS for: “Bring a Friend” prayer and outreach to encourage the next generation to pray and stand boldly for Christ each day. God to raise up prayer warriors for the Rock the River Tour West.
Pray FRIDAYS for: God to prepare Franklin Graham for the presentation of the Gospel to the young people at each event. God to speak to the hearts of the band members as they prepare for the tour

About Vancouver

Oraşul Vancouver de astăzi, cu o vechime de 118 ani, a fost odată o coastă muntoasă împădurită, locuită doar de indienii nativi (First Nations). Multe evenimente s-au produs şi au transformat ceea ce odată era o aşezare sălbatică şi puţin locuită, în ceea ce vedem astăzi.

Cu ani în urmă, exploratori englezi (Thomas Hook, George Vancouver,) şi spanioli (Jose Maria Narvaez) au păşit pe această coastă şi au întâlnit nativii indieni care au trăit aici netulburaţi de mii de ani. Clima temperată, poziţia geografică şi excelenta sursă de hrană a făcut din aceasta aşezare un loc ideal pentru ca nativii să supravieţuiască confortabil cam tot timpul anului. Mulţi, incluzând triburi ca Musqueam, Kwantlen, Tsawassen and Squamish au trăit şi s-au dezvoltat de-a lungul ţărmului Burrard (Burrard Inlet), dar viata le-a fost alterata de europenii veniţi care şi-au însuşit teritoriul şi le-au alungat pacea.

Vancouver-ul de astăzi şi-a căpătat acest nume mai târziu. Înainte exista numai o colecţie de mici aşezări într-o colonie britanică, numită pe atunci Noua Caledonie (New Caledonia). Aceasta includea ceea ce sunt astăzi provincia British Columbia din Canada şi statele americane Washinton şi Oregon.

Pe coasta de est, în anul 1867, s-a format Canada (Confederaţia), ca o dorinţa de a crea o ţară de la Atlantic la Pacific. A fost un vis, un vis de a crea o ţară mare care să oprească americanii (care se întindeau rapid peste teritoriu în partea de vest) de a se întinde pe întregul continent. În decadele care au urmat, visul a devenit realitate ca urmare a construcţiei căii ferate care a fost cheia în a uni oceanul Pacific de Atlantic. Iniţial, calea ferata (the Canadian Pacific Railway) s-a oprit în oraşul Port Moody, la capătul golfului Burrard, şi a fost mai târziu extinsă până la Granville care era mai aproape de gura golfului şi avea un port mai bun. Odată cu construcţia caii ferate, populaţia s-a mărit rapid. În patru ani de la construcţia caii ferate, populaţia a crescut de la 400 la 13,000.

În 1886, Granville şi-a schimbat numele şi s-a născut oraşul Vancouver. În 1895, Columbia Britanica, (British Columbia) s-a unit confederaţiei şi Noua Caledonie a dispărut. Aria de la sud de paralele 49 a fost luata de americani şi cea de la nordul paralelei 49 a devenit canadiană.

Prima capitală a provinciei British Columbia a fost New Westminster, “the Royal City”; dar mai târziu s-a decis să se mute capitala la Victoria pe insula Vancouver.
Oraşul îşi păstrează frumuseţea naturală, şi a ajuns un renumit centru cultural şi economic, unul din cele mai de dorit oraşe din lume pentru a fi vizitat şi locuit.
Vancouver-ul de astăzi se afla în provincia British Columbia şi cuprinde o colecţie de mai multe orăşele, toate făcând parte din “Greater Vancouver”, care se mai numeşte “Lower Mainland of British Columbia” sau ”the South Coast of British Columbia” (coasta de sud a provinciei British Columbia).

Oraşul continuă să se dezvolte rapid. A fost martor la doua războaie mondiale, a trecut prin marea depresie (the Great Depression), şi începuturile erei automobilului… şi a început să fie cunoscut internaţional.

Anul 1950 a marcat o era de dezvoltare şi prosperitate mai ales în zonele suburbane. În anul 1961, populaţia a crescut până la 800,000. De atunci s-au construit universităţi, the Second Narrows Bridge, 401 Freeway, the SkyTrain etc şi a fost construit renumitul Whistler Ski Resort.

Acest tânăr oraş cosmopolitan, cu începuturi modeste dar o istorie bogată, îşi menţine promisiunea de a fi “city of destiny” şi şi-a câştigat reputaţia de “Hollywood North” Oraşul a devenit al treilea ca mărime în Canada şi continuă să crească.
